    Marriage Certificate
    Divorced Yes, date unknown
    • In the 1910 census George Francis Spencer and Sarah Elsie Gardner were together and married. It is unknown whether they ever formally divorced; however, in the 1920, 1930 and 1940 census George Francis Spencer is indexed as being divorced. His wife Sarah Elsie Gardner in the 1920 census is in Juab County, Utah with another man and is indexed as "Elsie Person." Her husband is Karl "Person." However, Sarah's tombstone at Payson City Cemetery lists her as "Spencer."

Notes from granddaughter Bonnie Allias Mortenson: Bonnie could not confirm that there was a divorce. If so, her mother (Mary Lodica Spencer) never spoke of it. She did confirm that Sarah did leave George Francis with all the children. If Sarah remarried (Mr. Person) Bonnie could not confirm it. Again, her mother never spoke of him. She does think that Sarah came back and left again several times. She knows that Sarah brought Pearl to older sister Marie (Mary Lodica Spencer) several times. George Francis Spencer was a farmer and sheep herder by trade. Bonnie said that her mother told her that Sarah Elsie Gardner grew tired of being poor all the time. Bonnie knows that she died young - but doesn't know of what. She thought that she died in Indianola, Utah. It has now been confirmed through the Montana County Marriages database that Sarah Elsie Gardner Spencer did formally marry Carl Person.
