  • Name Robert Montgomery Ham  [1, 2, 3, 4, 5
    • The middle name "Montgomery" is assumed by family. I have never seen it in any record, rather he is always known as "Robert M. Ham." Montgomery is his mother's maiden name - and also the middle name of his brother - John Montgomery Ham. Did Joel and wife name two sons "Montgomery"?
Born 13 June 1852   Jackson, Rankin County, Mississippi Find all individuals with events at this location
    • This date and location ARE NOT sourced - and have been provided by other Ham researchers. Based on Robert's obituary - he was 50 years old when he died. Accordingly, he would have been born 1855. However, the census records seem to indicate the earlier birth year.

Condition: Deplorable. Cattle have trampled the area and broken 90% of the tombstones. The property's owners have not tried to keep their livestock off the gravesites & the condition of the site deteriorates with each passing year. There is an effort underway by the descendants of the interred to rectify the situation by putting a fence up around the graves.

    Notes
    • Notes from Marian Ham Miller: "You asked if I thought the families of brothers John Ham and Robert Ham kept in touch or visited. Apparently they did - although the distance did not make this easy back then. I don?t know if John and his family ever traveled to the Johnson Co. area; however, I do know that Robert and his family visited John and his family at least once around 1900. Mack Ham told me this. He remembered the visit and my grandfather Merideth taking him for a ride behind him on a horse. He also showed me a flint rock that Uncle John Ham cut in half and gave half to his father Robert Ham. After my grandparents married, Grandmother remembered Ora (Ham) Ward and their family coming for a visit at least once. She didn't remember exactly what year, but thought it was after John M. Ham died. I tried to locate Ora when I started all of this but was never able to get an address for her. Later, when I corresponded with Larry, there apparently wasn't much she could have told me about earlier generations, but it would have been nice to hear what she could remember."
    • Notes from Debbie Thurston - "I found some old correspondence from "someone" who had typed up some information and mailed it to my great aunt Cenie Ballard Williams. The notes are typewritten and labeled "Mother's Father: Robert Montgomery Ham"
Irish & Indian. His mother and father are buried at Grandview in Johnson County.
