Delania Johnson (or Thompson) West

Pound Cake Recipe
This recipe came down through the family and is provided courtesy of Barbara Garrison. I wonder if this pound cake recipe is exactly how Delania would have made hers. Crisco was not introduced to the public until 1911 - well after Delania's death.

Notes from Candice C. Allmand: This recipe card originally belonged to Rhoda Delania West and is in the possession of her grand daughter, Lana Gary Daniel of San Marcos, Texas. Lana tells us that Rhoda Delania's grandmother's (i.e. Delania West's) recipe for pound cake. The card, however, is not in Delania's handwriting as she signed other documents with her "x" mark. Also the card stock that it is written on is from a more modern time, certainly more modern than 1893. Rhoda Delania's parents were John Alfred and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Whitt) West and her grandparents were Willis and Delania West. This card records Delania West's maiden name as "Johnson" and her place of burial as Nameless Cemetery in Travisc County, Texas. I viewed the original recipe card and scanned it when Lana (Gary) Daniel visited my home in Austin in February of 2008. That Delania's maiden name was "Johnson" has not been proven and there is now compelling evidence that she was likely born a "Thompson."
