Elizabeth Box Curbow
Who Were her Parents?
By reviewing all the census records of Box families in Georgia and Mississippi, I believe (but have no definitive proof) that Elizabeth was the oldest child of William Bolton Box and his first wife Sarah Whitehead. (Elizabeth was named after Williamís mother, Elizabeth Bolton, purportedly a member of the Cherokee Nation.)
I came to this conclusion because William Bolton Box is always in close proximity to our Curbow family. He is originally from north Georgia, he is present in Itawamba County, Mississippi the same time that Tilman and Elizabeth are, and he later makes his way to Hill County, Texas where he lives out the rest of his life. Tilman and Elizabeth eventually settled in McLennan County, Texas which borders Hill County.
Additionally, in the earliest census records, he has living with him an unidentified female child that would match the birth year of Elizabeth.
Lastly, there appears to be a pattern in the family names (i.e., the names that Elizabeth and Tilman Curbow gave their children generally match the Box family names).
