C. E. Atwood, Tuscola, Dies
Tuscola - C. E. (Gene) Atwood, 73, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Hendrick Memorial Hospital in Abilene After an illness of six months. Funeral arrangements are pending at Fry Funeral Home here. Born October 2, 1890, at Board Flat near Cross Plains, he married Emma Arnold on October 25, 1914 in Oplin community. They moved to Taylor County in 1931 and farmed first in the Potosi community and later in the Wylie area a number of years. They later established their residence in Abilene at 1702 Sewell. He operated an Abilene service station until retiring about a year ago. He was a member of the Wylie Baptist Church and had served as a Baptist deacon 26 years. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Emma Gene Langley of Eunice, New Mexico, Mrs. Wanda Keith of Denver, Colorad; five sons, Winston of the home, Les of Lovington, New Mexico, James of 2658 S. 22nd, Russell of Tuscola and Johnny of Midland; 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Ches Barr of Cross Plains and Mrs. Elizabeth Jones of Lubbock and several neices and nephews.
